The first torch lights used incandescent bulbs. Even with today’s technology, an incandescent torch light will need two D batteries to make just 15-20 lumens of light at 200 candlepower. This is pathetic even compared to household incandescent lights which make about 800 lumens on 60 watts. It is no surprise that LED torch lights have long overtaken incandescent torches. Now that LED technology is rapidly advancing, LED torches offer even larger beams and more lumens but with longer battery life. The first readily-available LED torch lights were made in 2001 by Arc LS.
